Cox's Demesne Community Volunteers Clean Up local community

Cox’s Demesne Community Volunteers have been working hard to bring people together and help to improve the estate in recent months. The group hope to target a number of areas that have become notorious for illegal dumping and so have become overgrown and dangerous. The first clean-up was held in the Beechmount drive area last Tuesday morning. The volunteers were supported by both council workers and local CE workers to get the job done. They were also supported by thirteen staff, interns and volunteers from Louth Volunteer Centre, many of whom travelled from Drogheda to help out as part of a team volunteering day, and two county councillors, Maeve Yore and Edel Corrigan. Kayleigh Mulligan, from Louth Volunteer Centre, has been working closely with residents in the area since May to help revive volunteering in the area said that “while the clean-up was a huge success on the day, we really need to stress the importance of getting more local people on board with making improvements to the area if we are to be successful in the long term.” She also acknowledged the dedication of the four local volunteers that have been the driving force behind getting this work done, Charlie O’Brien, Fergal Sheehy, Ciarán McIntyre and Anthony Heeney. This environmental project is the second event run by these volunteers. On 29th August they organised the free family day named El Paso Party, which was very well attended with over 150 children on the day with their families.
