Training
Over the years several Volunteer Centres have worked with Carmichael on delivering/promoting training to organisations in their areas.
In 2022 Carmichael are running a series of FREE training workshops for charities and non-profits in Ireland. These workshops are funded by the Community Foundation for Ireland as part of a wider Covid-19 Fund for Recovery. The Community Foundation for Ireland hopes that this funding will strengthen the skills base of the sector around fundraising, digital, governance and leadership, and build resilience among volunteer and staff teams. In turn, the sector will be in a more resilient position as it recovers stronger from Covid-19.
Registration is open to non-profit board members and will be on a first come first serve basis.
A maximum of two people from any one non-profit can register per workshop. The training is limited to two workshops per person.

Empowering You Empowering Our Community: Training programme for prospective board members |

Being a board member of a charity or Community & Voluntary sector organisation can be a wonderful opportunity for you to share your skills, experience and perspective for the good of our community. It can be hugely rewarding and offer opportunities for personal and professional development. We designed our Empowering You Empowering Our Community programme to equip people with no experience of sitting on a board or committee with the knowledge and confidence to step into such a role. The next edition of this programme commences on 15th September at 6.30pm. The programme will run for six consecutive weeks on Wednesday evenings. Who is it for? The programme is for anyone living in County Louth who has an interest in being a member of a Charity or Community & Voluntary sector board. We are aiming to recruit a diverse group of participants with a broad range of skills, experience and interests What will I learn? This comprehensive, practical programme will equip prospective community board members with the knowledge to fulfil the duties of a voluntary board member in a Charity or Community & Voluntary Sector organisation. Cross community networking opportunities will also be provided to participants Modules will be delivered by experts in their field and content includes:
What does it cost? The project is supported by the European Union’s PEACE IV Programme, managed by the Special European Programmes Body (SEUPB) and supported locally by Louth County Council and Louth Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) and it is with thanks to this support that we can offer it for free to participants. Our previous programme was completely booked out. 100% of participants in that programme stated that their knowledge of the role and confidence in their ability to be a voluntary board member had increased. Louth Leading the Way - new community leadership programme |

Louth Volunteer Centre are partnering with BluZebra on a new cross community training programme for community leaders in Louth. This programme will help to increase understanding and appreciation for other cultures and communities so as to build positive relations. It will also equip individuals and groups within the community sector with the skills to provide positive leadership. There are two strands available -
Groups can design their own pathway to leadership success. This is a bespoke programme which can support groups to address specific issues, develop leadership in their organisation, assist with strategic development or whatever would be impactful for the organisation. Individuals involved with or connected to community groups in Louth can join others on a comprehensive leadership programme covering areas such as leadership style; managing conflict; Understanding team dynamics; and Resilience. Volunteer Leadership Training:
Louth Volunteer Centre can deliver a range of bespoke and modular training to Volunteering Involving organisations (VIO's) on a range of volunteer management related issues.
The term "volunteer leadership" is familiar to all of us working in organisations involving volunteers, but actually defining it, or describing what it looks like, may not be so easy. Our Volunteer Leadership Training is designed to cover the steps you would take when involving volunteers.
Research consistently shows that the way volunteers are managed and supported is crucially important. Volunteers who are well supported from the start are:
- More likely to be satisfied in their volunteering role(s)
- Likely to stay and make a difference in your organisation
- Be advocates for volunteering to others

On Wednesday, March 8th, Louth Volunteer Centre commenced a new six- session programme for prospective board members called Empowering You, Empowering Our Community.
The programme was for anyone living in County Louth who has an interest in being a member of a Charity or Community & Voluntary sector board. We aimed to recruit a diverse group of participants with a broad range of skills, experience and interests.
At the end of the programme participants of this programme may be interested in joining committees/boards of local community groups/charities.
Modules include:
· The local community landscape.
· Roles & Responsibilities of the voluntary board member.
· Charities Governance Code, Managing Risk, Managing Finances.
· Strategic planning, Decision making, Effective communication.
· Leading people, involving volunteers, diversity, and inclusion.
· Being an effective board member.
Our previous programmes were completely booked out. 100% of participants in the most recent programme stated that their knowledge of the role and confidence in their ability to be a voluntary board member had increased.

Louth Volunteer Centre was successful in receiving funding from Mental Health Ireland to facilitate a new project which we have titled - "New Connections." The team was excited to launch the project last May as part of our National Volunteering Week celebrations.
The aim of New Connections is to break down barriers to volunteering for a targeted cohort and therefore increase participation in volunteering among these groups. Volunteering is known to have a multitude of benefits to individuals, as well as their communities, including but not limited to mental and physical wellbeing benefits. The feedback after the programmes conclusion proved to be positive growing the community wide engagement.
A core part of this project needs to focus on building capacity within organisations to involve individuals with, or at risk of developing, mental health difficulties. It has been the experiences of Louth Volunteer Centre that certain cohorts of potential volunteers can find it difficult to secure volunteer roles.
Louth Volunteer Centre chose three groups to work with, that they feel will really benefit from what ‘New Connections’ has to offer;
- Adults with intellectual disabilities
- People recovering from addiction and
- Young Adults who have been through Garda diversion programs.
Louth Volunteer Centre has succesfully espoused organisations that would be interested in undertaking training as Inclusion Officers to act as the point of contact for volunteers that need additional support.
Louth Volunteer Centre has also provided training and support to organisations to ensure that participanted organisations have recieved appropriate training and policies in place to allow for greater inclusion of people with, or at risk of developing mental health difficulties.
