Haunted House - presented by Cox's Demesne Community Volunteers

On Saturday 31th October, Cox’s Demesne Community Volunteers organised an event aimed at bringing the community together and letting them know about the work that they had been doing over the past five months to promote volunteering and improve the area.

The Haunted House was supported by many local agencies including Louth County Council, Louth Volunteer Centre, Redeemer Family Resource Centre and Cox’s Demesne Community & Youth Project.

In the lead up to Halloween, volunteers ran art classes with the after school groups in ‘The House’ to make gravestones to be put in the garden for the Halloween event.  Both the Redeemer Boys and Girls National schools also took part, by encouraging all students to take part in in a Halloween art competition. Prizes were donated for three winners in each school by Pirates Den, Dundalk FC, Hallmark, Easons, Penneys and Boots.

Over 30 volunteers helped to make the day a success performing tasks such as sending out leaflets, sourcing props, recruiting volunteers, face-painting, taking part in the haunted house as actors and tour guides.

The Haunted House was very well attended with over 200 children attending on the day. Each child was charged €1 to enter. The total raised was €200.50 and £2.50.

The proceeds are to be divided between Cox’s Demesne Community & Youth Project and Cox’s Demesne Community Volunteers to go towards their Christmas event.
