Meet Patrick Feehan, volunteer with SVP

 

Patrick Feehan currently volunteers with St Vincent De Paul in Drogheda as a conference member. The SVP conference is the service that provides personal visits to those in need. They meet once a week on Thursday and would have from 3 to 10 people attending a conference. The purpose of the conference is to discuss calls in from the last week and in the local area, our area would cover the centre of Drogheda, then we have discussions about how to best help the client.

The help we give is varied. Anything from helping with funeral expenses, fuel assistance, education or courses, or just providing a listening ear. The help that we give is generally in the forms of vouchers. I always go out with another volunteer and meet the clients in their home. The reason I love volunteering with St. Vincent De Paul is that I like to help my fellow man. I also enjoy meeting up with other volunteers and the process of how we work out how best to help people. Being a volunteer helps me to appreciate what I have and helps me keep a positive outlook in my own life.
